About the Role
The Environment Agency is responsible for managing some of the busiest recreational waterways in the country, including 45 lock and weir complexes on the River Thames. As a Lock and Weir Keeper, you will be part of a team delivering front-facing customer service at locks and regulating river levels through weir operation. Your role will support wider objectives such as operational safety and asset management. You will work alongside other team members and technical staff, reporting to your Team Leader. This role involves travel to various locations along the river, with transport provided in line with the Agency's travel hierarchy. You will also be required to respond to and manage environmental incidents outside normal hours.
Key responsibilities include assisting with health, safety and wellbeing management at sites, operating weirs to maintain water levels for navigation, water resources and flood risk, maintaining an incident response role, supporting asset management teams through technology, and working with customers to provide assisted passage through locks. You will contribute to a solution-based approach to change and effective delivery as the Agency seeks to make operations financially sustainable.
Experience
Experience in front-facing customer service and managing risk in an operational environment is highly desirable.

- You must hold a full UK driving licence (a DVLA check will be conducted if invited to interview).
- Confident swimmer with the ability to undertake the "Working in and Near Water" qualification.
