About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Worker / Gardener to join our team at MHA. This varied and rewarding role involves maintaining a safe, comfortable, and attractive environment where residents, visitors, and colleagues feel welcome and supported. You will be responsible for the general upkeep of the service, including buildings, equipment, grounds, and gardens. Working closely with the Management team and contractors, you will ensure maintenance, health & safety, and environmental standards are consistently met in line with MHA’s values.

You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance across the home, including minor repairs, decorating, and general upkeep. You will help develop and follow a planned preventative maintenance schedule aligned with the Property Handbook. Maintaining gardens, lawns, paths, and outdoor areas to ensure they are safe, tidy, and well-presented will be a key part of your role. Additionally, you will monitor and maintain heating, water systems, lighting, and other mechanical and electrical equipment, keeping accurate records.

Responsibilities also include testing fire alarms, conducting fire safety checks, supporting compliance with health & safety requirements, liaising with the Home Manager and external contractors to arrange servicing, repairs, and inspections, assisting with risk assessments, and ensuring hazards are promptly addressed. You will support the safe movement of furniture and equipment following manual handling guidance and always respect residents’ privacy, dignity, and choice. Attendance at training, supervision, appraisals, and staff meetings is required.
