About the Role
Become a champion for nature in Islington with this two-year fixed term opportunity. As Nature Conservation Manager, you will lead the preservation and enhancement of Islington’s biodiversity and nature reserves in an urban environment. You will manage the Ecology Centre, a hub for environmental education, community events, and volunteering opportunities. Leading the Nature Conservation Team, you will oversee three Local Nature Reserves to ensure biodiversity thrives across the borough. You will drive forward Islington’s biodiversity agenda by managing the Biodiversity Action Plan, a network of Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs), and develop the Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS). Additionally, you will provide expert ecological advice to support the Planning Department in shaping the future of the borough’s green spaces. This role offers the chance to lead an impactful agenda, influence key environmental decisions, and work with a dedicated team on diverse projects that benefit local residents and visitors, making Islington greener, healthier, and more sustainable.

Experience
Proven experience in nature conservation leadership, ecology, or a related environmental field. Experience managing teams and delivering biodiversity or conservation projects in an urban setting is highly desirable.

Qualifications
A relevant degree or professional qualification in ecology, environmental science, conservation, or a related discipline is preferred.
