About the Role
Are you passionate about Scotland’s energy transition and ready to contribute to the delivery of Net Zero? The Scottish Government’s Offshore Wind Directorate is seeking an Offshore Wind Environmental Policy Officer to join the Planning, Assessment, Compensation and Evidence (PACE) Division on a temporary maternity leave cover basis. This varied and rewarding role offers the opportunity to support the implementation of Scotland’s Strategic Compensation Policy for Offshore Wind, a critical element identified by industry to facilitate the deployment of offshore wind in Scottish waters.

The postholder will work within the Strategic Compensation Policy team, reporting to the Unit Head, and will collaborate across government, public bodies, industry, and other UK administrations. The Directorate leads on offshore renewables policy and programmes, supporting sustainable growth of the offshore wind sector while balancing economic, environmental, and community interests.

Key responsibilities include supporting the implementation of new secondary legislation and guidance amending the Habitats Regulations for offshore wind, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, contributing to environmental policy and regulatory proposals, and supporting corporate tasks such as Ministerial submissions and Parliamentary Questions. The role requires effective stakeholder engagement, clear communication, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams to deliver Scotland’s offshore wind ambitions.

The Offshore Wind Directorate operates in a dynamic environment requiring flexibility and adaptability to evolving priorities. This role offers a unique chance to be at the forefront of Scotland’s offshore wind policy and contribute to a sustainable energy future.

Requirements

Experience
Essential policy experience and stakeholder engagement experience. Experience working on legislation and familiarity with legislative processes is advantageous.
