£34,715 per annum including inner London Weighting, depending on experience (clear incremental progress points)

About the Role
The City of London Corporation manages 11,000 acres (approximately 4,500 hectares) of land in and around London that is enjoyed by over 16 million visitors annually. While there are small pockets of land within the Square Mile, the majority are located elsewhere in London and the surrounding counties. The City Corporation acts as Trustee of 10 charities responsible for the preservation in perpetuity of a large proportion of these award-winning open spaces.

North London Open Spaces oversees a portfolio of some of the United Kingdom’s most iconic public open spaces, including Hampstead Heath (inclusive of Golders Hill Park and Parliament Hill), Highgate Wood, West Ham Park, and Queen’s Park. These spaces feature ancient woodland, diverse wildlife, zoos, world-class sporting and athletics facilities, iconic landscapes and built structures, listed heritage assets, breathtaking views, play facilities, historic wild swimming spots, and many other unique offerings that contribute to making London the most liveable large city in the world.

The Operative Ranger is the frontline face of our open spaces and is critical to ensuring a safe, welcoming customer experience for all users while maintaining the high standards required for the Green Flag Award and other nationally recognised standards. You will play a dynamic role supporting existing teams to keep the Heath clean and safe, engaging with visitors and community groups, and maintaining the Heath’s green spaces and facilities.

Experience
Demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced open spaces environment or a similar field applicable to an open space setting.

About you
You will have good communication skills, be able to follow company policies and procedures, and provide accurate updates to your Line Manager both written and verbal. You show initiative, work well in a team, are flexible, calm under pressure, and have a can-do approach to working outdoors.

Qualifications
You will have a full clean driving licence, GCSE English and Maths, an NVQ or relevant experience. You must have a good understanding of Health & Safety within a work environment and hold the relevant certification to operate machinery and tools.
