About the Role
At The Beehive Project, our mission is to support young people aged 16–25 from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health needs, care leavers, Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASCs), and individuals transitioning from residential care back into the community. We provide accommodation and support services to help them progress towards independence. An essential part of this support is ensuring our homes are safe, clean, welcoming, and well maintained.

We are seeking a practical and reliable Painter, Decorator & Grounds Maintenance Person to maintain the appearance and condition of our properties in Southampton. You will carry out painting, decorating, minor maintenance, and external grounds work across several supported accommodation sites. The role requires good organisation skills, the ability to move between sites, and completing tasks to a high standard.

Duties include:
- Internal and external painting and decorating, including preparation of surfaces by filling, sanding, sealing, and repairing damaged areas.
- Painting walls, ceilings, doors, skirting boards, woodwork, and communal areas.
- Touch-up work and redecoration between residents.
- Assisting with minor property repairs and general maintenance.
- Identifying and reporting larger maintenance issues requiring specialist contractors.
- Preparing bedrooms and properties ahead of new residents moving in.
- Maintaining gardens and external areas, including grass cutting, lawn maintenance, trimming hedges and shrubs, weeding, clearing leaves and debris.
- Keeping entrances, pathways, bin areas, and communal external spaces clean and presentable.
- Supporting seasonal maintenance of gardens and outdoor spaces.
- Ensuring tools, paints, and equipment are stored safely and securely.
- Working safely within properties occupied by young people, following safeguarding procedures and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Completing jobs efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
- Liaising with managers and staff regarding maintenance priorities.
- Helping identify preventative maintenance to reduce future repairs.
- Maintaining accurate records of completed work where required.
- Adhering to health and safety, COSHH, and safe working practices.

Requirements

Experience
- Previous experience in painting and decorating.
- Good practical maintenance skills.
- Experience with basic gardening and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to prepare surfaces and achieve a high-quality decorative finish.
- Comfortable carrying out minor repairs and general property maintenance.

- Willingness to complete an Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS check (arranged and paid for by the company).
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
- Previous experience within supported housing, social care, residential services, or similar environments is beneficial but not essential.
- A full UK driving licence is highly desirable as the role involves travelling between properties; own transport is desirable.
