About the Role
The successful candidate will be employed by the IUCN UK Peatland Programme’s host organisation, The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. You will play a pivotal role in delivering the Peatland Programme’s objectives to champion peatland values across the UK. This role requires driving forward and promoting peatland restoration through partnerships, strong science, sound policy, effective practice, and clear communication.

The Peatland Code Officer will support the operation of the Peatland Code, the UK’s only government-backed quality assurance standard for peatland restoration projects that generates independently verified carbon units. With over 380 projects currently registered, you will help expand this growing standard and contribute to the addition of biodiversity crediting alongside carbon quantification in 2025.

You will manage multiple priorities and projects efficiently, working alongside another Peatland Code Officer to administer all projects through the pipeline. Responsibilities include managing initial enquiries, checking project registrations on the UK Land Carbon Registry, and overseeing the validation and verification process. You will also support training delivery and contribute to the future development of the Peatland Code standard.

This is a unique opportunity to work in the rapidly developing arena of voluntary nature markets, collaborating with partner organisations and a variety of stakeholders to deliver tangible benefits for UK peatland conservation.

Requirements

Experience
Proven project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deliver results. Experience working with environmental standards, carbon markets, or peatland restoration is highly desirable.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to build trusted working relationships with diverse stakeholders.

About you
A motivated, highly organised, and professional individual with a passion for the environment. You must be diligent, proactive, and able to use your initiative to improve processes.

Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to digest technical information and communicate it clearly and accessibly.

You should share the values of The Wildlife Trusts: passion, respect, trust, integrity, pragmatic activism, and strength in diversity. We encourage applications from underrepresented groups and are committed to inclusivity and diversity.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are stated; however, relevant experience and a strong commitment to peatland conservation and environmental standards are important.
