We are seeking a tactical and collaborative Policy Advisor, Climate Action, who can leverage a thorough understanding of government greenhouse gas (GHG), energy, and climate change policies to develop aligned and actionable corporate strategies within the energy utility sector. In this role, you will support the Public Policy and Government Relations department by progressing climate action and policy objectives, including compliance with our Clean Growth Pathway plan.
Your key responsibilities will include conducting analysis and engagement related to climate action policies applicable to the buildings, industry, and transportation sectors in British Columbia; supporting the development of strategies to advance FortisBC’s zero and low-carbon solutions across electric and gas utilities; and contributing to the development and compliance of FortisBC’s internal greenhouse gas reporting, tracking, and action framework.
This position offers flexible work options, allowing up to 85 days per year working from an approved flex location in British Columbia, subject to business needs. Experience
A minimum of four to seven years of related experience in the energy industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with energy sector, utility, and regulatory environments is essential.
About you
Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail focused on public policy analysis. Proven ability to develop strategies with an in-depth understanding of energy and climate strategies, GHG abatement, regulations, and policies. Strong skills in business analysis, financial evaluation methods, and project management. Exceptional communication skills with a focus on government and stakeholder relations related to GHG policy frameworks in Canada. Demonstrated understanding of energy systems, modeling, and GHG abatement solutions.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in a relevant field such as environmental studies, political science, public affairs, business administration, or engineering is required. A master’s degree is considered an asset.
