About the Role
The Private Sector Housing team sits within Regulatory Services alongside Public Protection, Trading Standards and Waste, playing a key role in protecting communities and improving quality of life. The Renters Rights Act is expanding the remit and strengthening opportunities to make a meaningful impact.
As an Environmental Health Officer or Private Sector Housing Officer, you will manage a varied caseload including responding to service requests from tenants, inspecting properties to identify hazards, taking enforcement action where necessary, and supporting compliance through advice and engagement with landlords and agents. You will contribute to developing approaches as the service evolves under the Renters Rights Act, broadening your expertise and delivering meaningful outcomes for communities across Cornwall.
This is a public/customer-facing role subject to the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers and a basic criminal record disclosure check.
Experience
A recognised Environmental Health qualification or relevant housing or regulatory experience. Experience or knowledge of housing standards, private rented sector work or HMO licensing. Understanding of key legislation such as the Housing Act 2004 or ability to develop this quickly.
About you

Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills with confidence engaging tenants, landlords and partners. A proactive, adaptable approach and willingness to learn. Full UK driving licence or ability to travel across Cornwall.
