About the Role
The University of Salford’s ambition is to collaboratively develop and deliver real-world, impactful research and education that helps shape a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable society and economy. The Chair in Circular Economy represents an exciting opportunity to lead and effect real-world change through academic excellence and interdisciplinary research leadership at Salford Business School. Salford Business School is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy (SHAPE), led by PVC Dean Professor Katy Mason. SHAPE brings together diverse academic expertise to tackle complex societal challenges through collaborative, impactful research and innovation. The School is home to a vibrant international community of innovative and entrepreneurial scholars, industrial and policy partners, students, and a remarkable global network of accomplished alumni. With a strong focus on the student experience, we are redefining business and management education and its role in shaping sustainable futures through investment in Circular Economy research, education and innovation.

The Chair in Circular Economy is designed to build a powerful interdisciplinary research team spanning market and organisation studies, entrepreneurship, information systems and supply chain management. Our collaborative research community is growing rapidly through industry collaborations, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), research partnerships, international exchange opportunities and outreach activities. Our community values and commitment to innovation for people and planet are deeply rooted in long-standing social, industrial and public-sector ties at regional, national and international levels. This provides a powerful platform from which you can lead the collaborative co-design of ambitious research programmes that push the boundaries of knowledge and deliver real-world impact.

Our research is also transforming how we teach as we embed our cutting-edge research into our curriculum. We equip our students with critical transferable skills, developed using cutting-edge digital learning and carbon literacy tools and mobilised through active blended learning pedagogies, positioning them to become future leaders and collaborators of choice. You will have the opportunity to innovate curricula, embedding your team’s research insights into innovative and urgently needed education programmes.

Your research leadership will be supported by our knowledge exchange expertise. Our Centre for Sustainable Innovation (CSI) catalyses knowledge exchange and collaborative research between scholars, policymakers and industry, empowering sustainable business transformation and positioning Salford Business School in the top five for small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) engagement. As a Small Business Charter-accredited School, we are proud to work in partnership with a wide range of regional businesses, from SMEs to multinationals, supporting sustainable growth and productivity across Greater Manchester and beyond.

We welcome applications from scholars researching any aspect of the Circular Economy who understand the value of collaborative advantage and have the skills, ambition and insight to work with others on this exciting and transformative research journey.
