About the Role
Unipart Manufacturing is launching a flagship, fast-paced manufacturing project in Coventry, combining high-volume electrification assembly with complex injection moulding inputs. Fully aligned with Unipart’s Sector and Growth Strategy and The Unipart Way Forward Plan, this exciting venture will scale rapidly from zero to over 200 team members within a four-month period. We are seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer to support day-to-day quality control, process compliance, and technical assurance across complex manufacturing assemblies integrating electrification systems, injection-moulded components, and specialised welding processes. Joining at the ground level, you will execute core quality activities, inspect components, and ensure adherence to rigorous customer and defence standards in a dynamic project environment.
As part of your key responsibilities you’ll focus on:
- Maintaining quality control plans, executing process audits, and supporting Quality Management Systems (QMS) across production and New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Supporting adherence to quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100) and defence procedural standards (AQAP 2110 / DEF STANs)
- Performing dimensional checks, MSA studies, and quality assurance for electrification assemblies, plastic injection moulding tolerances, and structural welds
- Facilitating internal, customer, and supplier quality investigations using 8D problem-solving, maintaining Certificates of Conformity (CofC), and compiling PPAP documentation
- Strictly following Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) procedures and supporting statutory and security compliance across all quality checks
Experience
- Practical background as a Quality Engineer within automotive, aerospace, defence, or advanced manufacturing environments
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100, with exposure to defence standards (AQAP 2110, DEF STANs) or regulatory frameworks considered a strong advantage
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assembly, plastic injection moulding inspection (ISO 20457 / UL 94), or welded fabrications
- Proficiency in standard quality tools including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, and 8D/5-Why root-cause analysis
About you
You are a proactive and hands-on Quality Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment. You have strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. You are able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and are comfortable supporting new product introductions and process improvements.
Qualifications
Relevant quality engineering qualifications or certifications are advantageous but not essential. A strong practical understanding of quality management systems and manufacturing processes is key.
