About the Role
Join Manchester City Council as a Park Ranger and help shape the future of Manchester’s parks and green spaces. Engagement is at the heart of this role — you will build strong, meaningful relationships with local communities, Friends of the Parks groups, Elected Members, and colleagues across the council. As the primary point of contact, you will ensure stakeholders’ voices are heard and their ideas help shape how our parks evolve.

This role truly matters because our parks are more than green spaces—they are vital community hubs that bring people together, support wellbeing, and celebrate nature. By leading community events, developing Park Plans, and activating spaces with exciting initiatives, you will create places that inspire pride and belonging.

The Park Ranger role focuses on fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders including Friends of the Parks groups, park users, MCC colleagues, and Elected Members. You will serve as the primary contact, ensuring enquiries are addressed promptly and effectively. You will actively participate in stakeholder meetings within the parks and green spaces you cover.

Throughout the year, you will lead a variety of activities and community engagement initiatives across the parks and green spaces in your care. A key responsibility is leading the development and update of Park Plans, ensuring the community has a meaningful voice in shaping the future of their parks and how they are activated.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Parks team, wider council departments, and external partners to create a welcoming environment and ensure visitors have an enjoyable experience. Leading community events and activities is also a core part of this role.

This is a full-time, permanent position with additional payments including a Casual Car Allowance and a 6.7% Flexibility Payment. The role requires a full clean driving licence and the successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User, meaning occasional car journeys may be necessary. You must provide your own car and appropriate documentation to receive mileage allowance.

The role is subject to pre-employment checks including DBS clearance, references, and proof of right to work in the UK. Interview will be conducted face to face.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with communities and stakeholders is highly desirable. Previous involvement in community engagement, event organisation, or park management is advantageous but not essential.

About you
You will have excellent communication skills, able to listen attentively and engage with diverse groups. You are highly organised, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively. You demonstrate strong project management skills, problem solving, and decision making abilities. Creativity and strategic thinking are important to develop innovative solutions and contribute to future plans for parks and green spaces.

You must hold a full clean driving licence and be willing to use your own vehicle occasionally for work purposes. You will be confident using ICT tools to analyse data and present information.

You will be proactive, approachable, and passionate about connecting with people and making a positive impact in the community.

Qualifications
