About the Role
As a Recycling Assistant within Lush's Green Hub, you will play a vital role in supporting the company's commitment to circularity by ensuring waste and returned packaging are processed efficiently, safely, and sustainably. The Green Hub is Lush’s internal repair, reuse, and recycling plant responsible for processing waste streams from manufacturing sites and packaging returned by customers. Your work will help maximise reuse and closed-loop recycling, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and health & safety.
This hands-on role involves working across multiple areas including the yard (waste sorting), granulator & shredder, shop returns, washers, and product scrap/donations. You will operate machinery, perform quality checks, and maintain accurate data records while contributing directly to the goal of leaving the world Lusher than we found it.
The Green Hub team consists of 25 people including Recycling Assistants, Van Drivers, Forklift Operators, Machine Operators, and a management team. The site attracts visitors such as school groups, local council members, and journalists, so maintaining a professional manner and communicating confidently is essential.
Experience
Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or similar operational roles is advantageous but not essential. A willingness to learn and work as part of a team is key.
About you
- Reliable and punctual with a professional attitude towards colleagues, management, and visitors.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to escalate issues promptly.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality control to prevent contamination and maintain operational standards.
- Comfortable working in varied environments including outdoors in all weather conditions and noisy indoor settings.
- Safety-conscious with strict adherence to site procedures and PPE compliance.
- Able to manage time effectively, solve problems proactively, and maintain productivity.
- Team player who supports continuous learning, cross-training, and adapts to changing operational demands.
Qualifications
Open to applicants over 18 years old. No formal qualifications are required for this role, but a positive attitude, commitment to safety, and willingness to engage in training are essential.
