About the Role
The Resource Efficient Operations Co-Ordinator plays a key role in ensuring McCain’s facilities operate responsibly and sustainably. This position focuses on maintaining compliance with environmental laws and regulations while supporting McCain’s wider sustainability goals. You will oversee regional environmental systems, performance metrics, and reporting processes, assisting sites and the Group Energy Manager to minimise environmental impact, improve operational efficiency, and promote environmental awareness across the organisation. The role emphasizes achieving measurable outcomes by upholding compliance, driving sustainability improvements, and embedding responsible environmental practices into daily plant operations.
You will ensure legal and corporate compliance by supporting the development and maintenance of Environmental Management Systems and upholding all processes, permits, and regulatory standards. You will manage and improve environmental and energy systems aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001, facilitate audits, lead incident investigations and corrective actions, and coach leaders and SHE representatives to embed best practices.
Additionally, you will implement resource efficiency initiatives to minimise waste, energy, and water consumption, aligning operational activities with global sustainability targets and continuous improvement programmes. You will develop, communicate, and maintain environmental policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistent best practice application across sites.
The role includes coordinating inspections and audits to achieve positive external audit outcomes, compiling and presenting KPI reports to inform decision-making, and providing environmental expertise for new equipment installations, process optimisations, and site expansions. You will also manage procurement of consumables and equipment necessary for environmental safeguarding and contribute to compliance with legislation including ESOS, UK ETS, Climate Change Agreements (CCA), and Renewable Obligations.
This position is based at the Whittlesey plant, one of the largest sites in McCain’s GB business, and involves close collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Environmental teams to drive resource efficiency and sustainability initiatives that deliver real impact.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience with environmental management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 within food manufacturing, manufacturing, or comparable industries.
- Proven track record of achieving measurable sustainability performance improvements.
- Thorough understanding of UK environmental regulations, permitting procedures, and compliance obligations.
- Experience supporting audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a closely related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Possession of the NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or equivalent professional qualification.
