Our Environment and Sustainability Services (ESS) team, comprising over 100 professionals across 18 UK offices, is expanding its environmental assessment capabilities within the water sector. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide technical leadership in Water Resource Planning – Environment, working on projects such as Water Resource Management Plans (WRMP), Drought Management Plans (DMP), and Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (DWMP). You will lead environmental assessments including Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), Natural Capital Assessment, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, driving innovation and sustainable outcomes. The role involves strategic client engagement, technical leadership, business development, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-profile water resource projects. This is a key position to influence environmental technical delivery during a busy AMP8 period and beyond.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in strategic water planning including WRMPs, Regional Water Resource Plans, Drought Plans, and DWMPs (essential)
- Experience leading environmental assessments in the water sector or related sectors (desirable)
- Significant expertise in one or more of the following: Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), Natural Capital Assessment (NCA)

- Strong leadership skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality environmental and sustainability outputs
- Client-facing experience with the ability to build relationships and influence diverse stakeholders
- Well organised with excellent planning, management, and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Creative problem solver with a drive for continual improvement and innovation
- Comfortable engaging in strategic client discussions, public consultations, stakeholder workshops, and industry events

Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical subject (essential)
- Master's degree in a relevant subject (desirable)
- Chartered status with a professional institution such as CIWEM or IEMA (desirable)
