About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to contribute to landmark infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland, working alongside the largest and most successful Land team in the industry. This role involves delivering land referencing, land acquisition, land access, formal consents, statutory orders, compensation agreements, and landowner engagement for major strategic infrastructure projects across sectors including energy, highways, rail, water, and aviation.
You will work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, combining office, home, and on-site working to ensure the accuracy, validity, and auditability of land information collected. Your role will focus on securing land and land access, arranging surveys, and building strong relationships with stakeholders and landowners through statutory powers and negotiation.
As a Senior Land Consultant, you will lead audits and quality assurance reviews, provide senior-level advice on land acquisition risks and opportunities, oversee compliance with statutory processes, and resolve disputes with diplomacy and authority. You will contribute to commercial strategy, risk management, and the development of training programmes within the Land team.
WSP Land supports some of the highest-profile infrastructure projects including renewable energy schemes, major road and rail projects, water resilience initiatives, and airport expansions. You will be part of a diverse team with backgrounds in estate management, forestry, agriculture, project management, and more, working to deliver innovative, best-value services to clients.
The role requires travel across the UK and Ireland, with potential travel to WSP’s Global Capability Centre in India.
Experience
- Degree or equivalent experience in Geography, Land/Estate Management, Agriculture, or a relevant discipline
- Proven experience delivering land referencing, land access, landowner engagement services, and statutory processes on major infrastructure projects
- Experience negotiating with landowners and knowledge of legal processes for acquisition of wayleaves, easements, or servitudes desirable
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams across sectors and locations in the UK and/or Ireland
- Demonstrable track record of reducing land risk and advising clients throughout project lifecycles
- Proven experience developing Orders or equivalent and acquiring consents and interests in land, with knowledge of relevant legislation
- Experience in infrastructure development schemes, particularly in energy, highways, rail, water, and/or aviation sectors
- Knowledge of land access permissions, s172 licences, and site safety preferred

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
- Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional body advantageous
- Full clean driving licence desirable
- Knowledge of urban and/or rural environments and farming practices desirable
