Senior Manager - Thames Basin Heaths


Location
Heather Farm, Woking, Surrey, GU21 4XY. Regular attendance at the site office and heathland sites in the Thames Basin Heaths area is required.
Hours
Full Time. Hybrid working arrangements available with an expectation to attend the associated office for 20% of contractual hours.
Salary
£41,550 per annum plus £12,037 employer contribution to the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
About the Role
Join Natural England in shaping a future where nature and people thrive. As the Senior Manager for the Thames Basin Heaths Partnership (TBHP) project, you will lead a dedicated team providing an on-the-ground warden service for the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (TBH SPA). Working closely with landowners, local authorities, and key partners, you will champion the protection of this internationally important heathland site from recreational pressures linked to new housing developments.
Based within the Thames Solent Area Team, you will line manage both permanent and seasonal wardens, supporting public engagement initiatives and ensuring effective delivery of project objectives. You will also take responsibility for health and safety compliance, procurement activities, and performance management, reporting to the Thames Basin Heaths Joint Strategic Partnership Board.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to strategic environmental outcomes including recovering nature, building better places, improving health and wellbeing, and delivering security through nature. You will be part of a collaborative leadership team driving positive impact across the region.
Experience
- Proven experience leading and managing teams to meet priorities and deliver outcomes.
- Ability to lead through change and support individuals adapting to new ways of working.
- Experience managing staff performance and using coaching and mentoring to develop team members.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks, prioritise effectively, and make informed decisions.
About you
- Demonstrates leadership by sharing skills and supporting career development.
- Knowledge of heathland management, ecology, and the pressures affecting these habitats is desirable.
- Understanding of access management and monitoring techniques to manage recreational pressures is desirable.
Qualifications
- No specific qualifications are mandated; however, relevant experience and a commitment to environmental conservation are essential.
