About the Role
Bloomberg's Engineering AI department comprises over 400 AI practitioners building innovative products and features that require novel AI innovations. We invest in AI technologies such as transformers, gradient boosted decision trees, large language models, and dense vector databases to enhance search, discovery, and workflow solutions.
As a Senior ML Research Engineer on the AI Sustainable Finance team, you will contribute to cutting-edge initiatives including real-time controversies detection from news, greenhouse gas emissions estimation for global equities, financial materiality assessment of corporate conduct, and ML explainability for sustainability solutions.
Bloomberg’s sustainable finance solutions leverage comprehensive, reliable, and contextualized environmental, social, and governance data to help investors identify opportunities, integrate sustainability signals into models, manage risk exposure, and measure strategy impact.
In this role, you will collaborate with sustainable finance domain experts, own cross-team projects end-to-end from research to production deployment, research and train ML models to assess sustainability risks, design real-time NLP pipelines using large language models, develop evaluation frameworks and annotation tooling, stay current with the latest NLP and ML research, represent Bloomberg at scientific and industry conferences, and publish research findings in leading academic venues.
Experience
- Proven experience building production ML systems, preferably with exposure to sustainability and responsible investment challenges
- Practical experience with Machine Learning problems and Large Language Models
- Proficiency in software engineering with Python, including production ML infrastructure such as model serving, data pipelines, and evaluation frameworks
- Familiarity with LLM-based systems for structured information extraction from unstructured text
- Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and a data-oriented problem-solving approach
About you
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering peers and non-engineering stakeholders such as sustainable finance analysts, product managers, and domain experts
- Interest in sustainability or climate finance is a strong plus
- A track record of authoring publications in top conferences and journals is highly desirable
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or a relevant field, or
- MSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related fields with relevant work experience
