About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects, collaborate with leading experts, and contribute to meaningful transport and spatial planning initiatives. Due to an expanding public sector workload and a major National Highways framework appointment, we are seeking a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning & Mobility team. You will work within a highly integrated, multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, and modellers across WSP’s UK offices. Your role will focus on delivering transport planning and infrastructure projects, including major projects and National Highways commissions in the North of England.

Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to the delivery of transport and spatial planning projects with technical excellence and policy compliance
- Leading technical project delivery and engaging with wider disciplines, clients, and stakeholders
- Delivering transport modelling projects, tasks, and studies
- Providing leadership and guidance to junior staff and supporting technical capability building
- Managing commercial aspects of projects, ensuring programme and budget adherence
- Making a visible contribution to WSP’s four key pillars: People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Expertise

Requirements

Experience
- Experience in transport, development, or spatial planning
- Understanding of the UK planning system, including national and local policy and transport assessment requirements
- Ability to lead small projects and technical tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet commercial requirements
- Experience contributing to multi-tier modelling projects including local junction modelling, microsimulation, and strategic modelling
- Familiarity with UK highway design standards and concept option development
- Experience in client and stakeholder engagement, presenting complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Commercial awareness including budget management, forecasting, and fee development
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting transport data and evidence
- Ability to produce high quality technical reports and clear public-facing documentation

Motivated and collaborative professional with strong leadership skills, able to support and develop junior staff while delivering high quality project outcomes. You are adaptable, commercially aware, and passionate about making a positive impact through transport planning.

Qualifications
Relevant professional qualifications or equivalent experience in transport planning or related disciplines are expected.
