About the Role
Bring your environmental passion for rivers to life! Are you experienced in managing river restoration projects and looking for the next step in your career? Join the Restoring Rivers and Catchments team at South East Rivers Trust, a growing charity dedicated to improving and making a real difference to rivers within the South East of England, home to some of the rarest chalk streams on the planet.

As a Senior Project Officer, you will lead, design and develop projects aimed at improving the environment, rivers, and river catchments. This permanent role offers the opportunity to oversee all stages of river and catchment enhancement projects—from conception through development, design, and physical implementation.

The South East Rivers Trust works across 12 river catchments, connecting communities and mobilising citizen scientists to educate and engage people on the importance of rivers. The Trust supports and challenges stakeholders, businesses, and individuals to protect rivers using data and evidence to target positive action and working with nature to restore river health.

Projects vary widely in size, complexity, and type, including natural flood management, water resource management, fish passage improvements such as weir removals and fish passes, wetland and backwater creation, in-channel habitat improvements like large wood and gravel introduction, and re-channelling works. You will have the opportunity to lead larger projects, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and to a high standard, while applying creative and ambitious solutions.

This role requires managing, delegating, and collaborating within the Trust and with external partners, stakeholders, and professional services to deliver meaningful and impactful environmental projects benefiting both nature and communities.

South East Rivers Trust is committed to restoring and protecting rivers and their catchments against multiple threats and climate change by delivering evidence-based, nature-based solutions and inspiring more people to protect rivers for the future. Working here is rewarding, busy, and collaborative, driven by core values of high-quality work, scientific expertise, strong relationships, and positive energy. If you thrive in a challenging and evolving environment focused on growth and impact, this role is for you.
