About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Senior Project Officer to lead the development of local understanding and raise awareness about the impact of Industrial Areas as sources and pathways for chemical contaminants, such as PFAS, and bacterial pollution entering the groundwater system. This role focuses on the development and delivery of a water quality protection programme for the Northbrook water supply boreholes in Worthing. This partnership project between the Ouse & Adur Rivers Trust and Southern Water aims to explore and test methods to improve water quality at the Northbrook boreholes by influencing pollution sources in the surrounding urban industrial area, with particular attention to bacterial and emerging contaminants like PFAS.
In addition to groundwater protection, the role will consider wider environmental outcomes including improved water quality in the Teville Stream catchment. You will engage with key decision makers and stakeholders across urban and industrial sectors, building long-term relationships and gaining a deep understanding of current mechanisms and constraints to mitigating pollutants entering groundwater and surface watercourses.
As part of our Evidence & Engagement Team, you will develop an understanding of pollution sources and pathways, leading to the creation and delivery of an awareness campaign targeting all relevant stakeholders. This includes physical signage and information within the industrial area, such as a yellow fish style campaign. The role will also explore opportunities and constraints related to the delivery of physical mitigation methods relevant to operations in the urban and industrial areas around the boreholes.

Experience
Proven experience in environmental project management, water quality protection, or related fields. Experience working with industrial or urban pollution sources and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.

Qualifications
A relevant degree or equivalent experience in environmental science, ecology, hydrology, or a related discipline is preferred.
