About the Role
Are you ready to make a real difference? Join our High Hazard specialist team as a Senior Regulatory Officer. We are committed to enhancing our regulatory practices and building an effective regulatory framework. You will work alongside Team Leaders and Principal Regulatory Officers to ensure compliance of COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 2015) sites across England. As a locally recognised expert, you will deliver complex compliance solutions, lead a programme of regulatory work, and provide technical leadership across your local network to ensure consistency in regulation.
You will be responsible for building technical resilience within your team by mentoring, training, and guiding less experienced Regulatory Officers to support regulatory delivery and ensure the successful execution of our work plan. This role involves conducting site inspections, responding to incidents, and leading complex investigations to protect the environment and public safety.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure COMAH sites comply with regulatory requirements to prevent and limit major accident hazards.
- Conduct site inspections, investigate complex environmental incidents, and undertake enforcement actions.
- Collaborate with partner organisations on joint initiatives and regulatory duties.
- Plan and deliver regulatory activities locally in line with KPIs.
- Support and mentor Regulatory Officers, assessing their technical capabilities.
- Lead complex investigations and respond to incidents as part of an incident role, which may attract additional payments and training.
- Work within a dispersed team reporting to a COMAH Team Leader, engaging regularly in site visits and fieldwork.
Experience
- Significant experience with the COMAH regime and/or industrial experience in chemical and/or energy industries.
- Practical application of regulatory compliance.
- Proven influencing skills and ability to develop good relations in complex environments.
- Experience working independently to deliver a programme of work aligned with work plans.
- Experience collaborating with partner organisations on joint initiatives.
- Taking initiative and applying continuous improvement approaches.

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent, ideally in a science or engineering subject, or comparable external industrial experience.
- Full UK driving licence.

- Familiarity with environmental management systems, auditing, and root cause analysis.
- Experience interpreting environmental monitoring and performance data.
