About the Role
The UCL Institute for Global Health (IGH) is at the heart of UCL’s Grand Challenge of Global Health, aiming to support robust solutions to major global health challenges through research, education, public engagement, translational research, and influencing policy and practice. The Lancet Countdown is an independent international research collaboration tracking the links between health and climate change globally, regionally, and nationally, in partnership with The Lancet and the World Health Organization. Its goal is to inform a strong response to climate change that protects and promotes human health.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Fellow in Climate Change and Health to lead the coordination and timely delivery of the Lancet Countdown’s health research and academic initiatives. This includes collating health and epidemiological evidence for the annual Global Lancet Countdown Report, Regional Reports, special issues, and other academic outputs.

This role provides specialist expertise in public health, global health, and/or epidemiology to advance the Lancet Countdown’s academic work and ensure high standards of academic rigour and science. The postholder will support research quantifying the effects of climate on health and exploring health opportunities from climate change mitigation.

The successful candidate will be an expert in climate change and global health and/or epidemiology, with strong quantitative skills applicable across climate change and health research. This includes developing and evaluating indicators of climate change effects and policies on public health, and using findings to inform real-world impact. Their disciplinary expertise will ensure critical appraisal and integration of public and global health principles across all outputs.

Leadership and network skills are essential for integrating expertise across climate and health fields. The postholder will also be encouraged to develop and expand a research programme at the intersection of climate change and health, supporting both the Lancet Countdown’s aims and their own academic career development.

This is a full-time role available until 30 April 2029 in the first instance. The successful candidate must be living in the UK or willing to relocate for the duration of the contract.

- Proven ability to lead teams through complex programmes, delivering high-quality outputs against tight deadlines.
- Track record of securing research grant income and developing successful grant applications.
- Strong record of academic publications, including first and/or senior author positions.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

About you
The successful candidate will be an expert in their field with strong leadership and networking skills, able to integrate expertise across climate and health disciplines.
