About the Role
Are you committed to improving private rented housing standards? We are seeking a dedicated Service Manager to lead our Residential Environmental Health Team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering a wide range of activities designed to improve housing standards in the private rented sector, supporting independent living through the administration of disabled facilities grants, setting and monitoring performance standards, driving efficiency improvements, optimising income to support service delivery, and using discretionary licensing powers to create a well-regulated private rented sector.

You will play a key role in ensuring safe and healthy homes for residents, using your expertise to influence and enforce housing standards. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the community and contribute to our mission to provide a safe place to call home.

Islington Council is committed to challenging inequality and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We live by our CARE values – collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering – which guide everything we do. Join us and be part of a team dedicated to creating a more equal Islington where everyone has the chance to thrive.

We offer a supportive working environment with excellent benefits including up to 31 days leave (increasing to 36 days after five years of local government service), flexible working arrangements, learning and development opportunities, competitive pay with a commitment to the London Living Wage, a local government pension scheme, cycle to work scheme, discounted gym memberships, and local discounts from restaurants, shops, and health and beauty providers.

Please note priority will be given to those at risk of redundancy within Islington Council who meet the essential criteria for shortlisting.

Extensive experience as both a housing enforcement officer and manager is essential. Proven ability to lead teams and deliver improvements in housing standards within the private rented sector.

A strong understanding of housing law and relevant legal processes is required, alongside experience using data and evidence to inform decision making.

About you
You will have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. You are committed to making a positive difference in the community and share our values of collaboration, ambition, resourcefulness, and empowerment.

You demonstrate a strong commitment to equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and are dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive working environment.

Qualifications
You will hold a relevant professional qualification related to housing or environmental health.

The role is subject to a basic DBS check, qualifications verification, and 3 to 5 years of referencing.
