About the Role
As a Social Sustainability Manager within Kier Group's Group Services Team, you will lead the delivery of the social sustainability elements of the Building for a Sustainable World framework. Your responsibilities include actively engaging and influencing business streams to ensure they understand and implement best practices in social sustainability, helping them stay on course to achieve targets and taking necessary corrective actions when needed. You will liaise with industry bodies, NGOs, and relevant indices to maintain compliance with legislation and stay updated on best practices and regulatory changes. The role involves advising business leaders on social sustainability strategy and plans, collaborating closely with the wider HR function and the Kier Foundation to ensure alignment and synergy. You will support the group proactively in all aspects of social sustainability and contribute to embedding the social elements of Kier’s sustainability framework across the business.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience managing sustainability programmes with a strong social and corporate responsibility focus.
- Commercial awareness and ability to act as an ambassador for the brand.
- Experience in budget management and demonstrating tangible return on investment.
- Proven ability to draft policies and processes across broad sustainability programmes including Business Ethics, Human Rights, ESG, procurement, and subcontractor management.
- Experience forging relationships and working across multiple services in a large, complex organisation.
- Experience working with external agencies and independent auditors for social sustainability reporting compliance (e.g. Business in The Community or similar).
- Skilled in managing and reporting on diverse data streams including people, communities, environment, marketplace, and governance.
- Experience using social value calculators, preferably Thrive, and confident in social value reporting.
- Preferably a professional member of IEMA, ICRS or similar.
About you
You are a proactive and collaborative professional who can influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. You have a passion for social sustainability and corporate responsibility and are committed to driving positive social impact within a large organisation. You are adaptable, commercially minded, and able to work effectively in a hybrid and flexible working environment.
Qualifications
Relevant professional membership such as IEMA or ICRS is preferred but not essential. We value transferable skills and encourage applications from candidates who may not meet every criterion but demonstrate potential and enthusiasm for the role.
