About the Role
Kraken is seeking a Software Engineer I (Backend/Python) to join our London team and help innovate in the energy sector. You will work on solving complex design challenges, optimizing renewable energy systems, and collaborating with a diverse engineering team. Key technologies include Python, Django, AWS, and React. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a sustainable future while tackling technical problems in the evolving Spanish energy market.
Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy. We are a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimizing renewable generation and creating a more intelligent grid to enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our platform is transforming the energy industry worldwide for the benefit of all.
Our engineering team of around 1400 people globally includes server-side, client-side, and mobile engineers working closely with UX experts, copywriters, and designers. We follow a Kanban-like approach and use tools such as Github, CircleCI, Terraform Enterprise, Loggly, Sentry, and Cloudwatch to ensure continuous delivery and production monitoring.
On the server-side, we primarily use Python with Django, Django-REST-framework, and GraphQL (Graphene). We leverage AWS extensively, including the Hashistack tools like Packer, Consul, and Terraform. Client-side technologies include React, Redux, and SASS, with mobile apps built using native code or React Native.
In this role, you will face challenging design problems related to the complex and process-heavy Spanish energy market, requiring strong domain modelling and attention to detail. You will help build robust systems capable of processing millions of smart meter readings daily and feeding data into machine learning pipelines for consumption prediction.
Joining Kraken means working for a company committed to fighting climate change. Our parent company is the largest investor in solar generation in the UK and supports wind and anaerobic digestion projects. As a supplier, we help customers adopt greener technologies and renewable energy, contributing to a lower carbon future.
