£70,000+ depending on experience, plus car and allowances.
About the Role
Zurich Insurance is dedicated to helping customers understand and protect themselves from risk through a wide range of insurance products, solutions, and advisory services. As a Specialist Risk Engineer within our risk engineering business, you will play a key role in ensuring that risk engineering is both technically and commercially viable. You will provide first-class customer service while ensuring all Risk Engineering policies and standards are clearly defined and implemented.
In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert on both traditional thermal power and renewable power sectors, supporting underwriting, claims, and the global risk engineering network. You will also engage with clients and brokers to grow revenue streams into Zurich Resilience Solutions.
This varied and challenging role involves assessing risk quality, estimating maximum loss potential, conducting site-based risk engineering surveys worldwide, producing clear technical reports, and supporting claims validation. You will provide thought leadership and technical insight on risk features, promote Zurich Resilience Solutions, and build trusted relationships with internal and external partners to identify new business opportunities.

Experience
- University degree in an appropriate subject area or equivalent.
- Mechanical, Electrical, or Process engineer with several years of asset-based experience in the Power Generation industry (design, installation/construction, commissioning, maintenance, or inspection superintendent).
- Knowledge and experience with Thermal Power Generation, including Energy from Waste.
- Familiarity with industry standards.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Experience or strong interest in loss prevention topics such as asset management and technical risk management is beneficial.
- Experience in technical or commercial insurance sector and previous risk engineering or risk management experience is advantageous.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it is desirable.

Qualifications
- Desirable experience with Sustainable Power Generation technologies including Hydro, Solar, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Knowledge of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) or emerging nuclear power technologies.
- Understanding of data centre power infrastructure, electrical grid infrastructure, and transmission systems.
- Knowledge of international loss prevention and fire protection standards (e.g., NFPA or equivalent).
