About the Role
Join Barclays as an Assistant Vice President, Sustainability Communications Manager, to help communicate the Group's sustainability and climate strategy effectively to relevant external stakeholders. This permanent role supports the development and execution of the communications strategy and the writing and coordination of sustainability thought leadership. Working closely with the Head of Sustainability Communications, Employee Communications, Digital, Strategic Policy, and Media Relations teams, you will promote, protect, and defend the Bank's reputation while managing communications activity across a range of sustainability topics.

Your responsibilities will include delivering and executing the bank's external communications strategy to ensure messages are effectively communicated across multiple owned and earned channels. You will develop strategy-aligned campaigns, tactical content, and news flow that clearly convey Barclays' values, goals, and objectives to the public. Maintaining strong external stakeholder relationships, including media outlets and industry groups, is key to ensuring press releases, media statements, and owned channels accurately reflect the bank's strategy and reputation.

As part of your role, you will contribute to reputational risk minimisation and management by advising on risk mitigation and managing negative news flow or crisis issues. You will collaborate closely with other functions and business divisions, lead complex tasks, and influence decision-making to support operational effectiveness. This role requires strong leadership or collaborative skills, depending on the assignment, and involves coaching, performance appraisal, and fostering an environment where colleagues can thrive.

Experience
- Proven experience in media relations, either agency or in-house, managing fast-moving proactive and reactive news environments.
- Experience in sustainability communications.
- Knowledge of and experience in financial services is highly desirable.
- Experience managing press office queries at pace with the ability to navigate business stakeholders and apply strategic thinking for optimal reputational outcomes.
- Strong journalist relationships and experience with a range of media (traditional and digital) across business, finance, and trade publications.
- Experience delivering strategic news flow and creative storytelling.
- Experience writing and developing content for digital channels.
- Experience handling sensitive issues and communicating complex information effectively.

Qualifications
