About the Role
Join Barclays as an Assistant Vice President, Sustainability Communications Manager, to effectively communicate the Group's sustainability and climate strategy to relevant external stakeholders. This permanent role supports the development and execution of the communications strategy and the writing and coordination of sustainability thought leadership. Working closely with the Head of Sustainability Communications and collaborating with Employee Communications, Digital, Strategic Policy, and Media Relations teams, you will promote, protect, and defend the Bank’s reputation while managing communications activity across a range of sustainability topics.

You will be responsible for delivering and executing the bank's external communications strategy to ensure messages are effectively communicated across multiple owned and earned channels. This includes developing aligned campaigning, tactical content, and news flow that clearly convey Barclays’ values, goals, and objectives to the public. Maintaining strong external stakeholder relationships with media outlets and industry groups is essential to ensure press releases, media statements, and owned channels accurately reflect the bank’s strategy and reputation.

In this role, you will also play a key part in reputational risk minimisation and management by advising on risk mitigation and managing negative news flow or crisis issues. As an AVP, you will influence decision making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. You will collaborate closely with other functions and business divisions, lead complex tasks, and support the achievement of organisational objectives through strategic communication and stakeholder engagement.

The role demands strong leadership behaviours aligned with Barclays’ LEAD framework: Listen and be authentic, Energise and inspire, Align across the enterprise, and Develop others. You will be expected to communicate complex and sensitive information clearly, influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes, and demonstrate Barclays’ core values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship, alongside the Barclays Mindset of Empower, Challenge, and Drive.
