About the Role
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is seeking a Sustainability Data Manager to join the Innovation Team. This role involves working closely with multiple teams across BAS to support the organisation’s decarbonisation efforts and deliver carbon reduction strategies. The successful candidate will analyse and manage energy and carbon data across BAS operations including Cambridge offices, Antarctic Research Stations, Ships, Aircraft, and Business Travel. They will provide critical data and analysis to the BAS Decarbonisation Management Group and the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP), supporting carbon accounting, reporting, and performance evaluation across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
The role includes assessing energy performance of buildings and carbon savings from interventions, collaborating with project managers, engineers, and facilities staff to facilitate carbon reduction in infrastructure and wider projects. The postholder will lead BAS carbon accounting and reporting to the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), supporting compliance with UKRI sustainability strategy and HM Treasury Greening Government Commitments.
The Sustainability Data Manager will also contribute to the BAS Net Zero transition by working with the Net Zero, Environment, and AIMP teams, engaging with committees and external research organisations to share best practices and develop benchmarks. Communication of BAS’s Net Zero work to the polar community and public is also a key responsibility.
