About the Role
British American Tobacco (BAT) is evolving rapidly into a global multi-category business with a purpose to create A Better Tomorrow™ by Building a Smokeless World. We are seeking an undergraduate intern to join our New Category R&D Sustainability Team based in Southampton for a 12-month placement starting September 2027. This role focuses on the environmental impacts of our New Category products, supporting life cycle analysis, environmental impact mapping, Eco Design, circularity, and carbon reduction activities to help deliver our 2030 and beyond corporate targets.

The intern will also contribute to developing our sustainable materials database in collaboration with Design and Materials Engineering teams. You will gain hands-on experience in supporting BAT’s low carbon strategy and circular economy initiatives, including increasing sustainable material use, designing for end of life, and extending product and material lifecycles.

BAT invests significantly in Research and Development to deliver innovations that meet consumer needs and ensure product safety and quality. Our undergraduate placement scheme offers a vibrant and innovative industrial setting, pairing you with a mentor, providing regular reviews, and involving you in impactful projects. The scheme includes comprehensive training and development sessions such as onboarding, presentation skills, critical thinking, scientific poster presentations, and networking with senior management.
