About the Role
Join our dynamic Sustainable Transport team in our mission to transform Essex into a Safer, Greener, and Healthier County. We are dedicated to fostering active travel and sustainable transport options, enhancing residents’ well-being while reducing our carbon footprint. As the Sustainable Travel Planning Officer, you will lead collaborative efforts with diverse stakeholders to develop innovative strategies promoting sustainable travel among schools, businesses, and new housing developments. Your role includes developing, implementing, and monitoring Travel Plans aimed at catalysing modal shift throughout the county. You will deliver impactful Travel Planning solutions, encourage innovation, and communicate effectively to advance a wide array of sustainability-focused projects. Key responsibilities include contributing to new initiatives supporting sustainable travel policies, building relationships with employers, developers, and schools, providing up-to-date information and best practices, representing Essex County Council at various meetings, managing employee travel schemes, liaising on planning proposals, and delivering professional advice and guidance on Travel Plans. You will also champion the Safer Greener Healthier vision, acting as an ambassador and supporting others to promote these aims. Specific targets and objectives will be set annually within the performance management framework.
Experience
- Educated to RQF Level 3 (A level) or degree level, or equivalent by experience
- Essential experience in Travel Planning, with practical experience of Residential Travel Planning preferred
- Knowledge of sustainable travel initiatives and the development, implementation, and monitoring of Travel Plans
- Familiarity with national travel planning campaigns including cycling, walking, and public transport
- Proven track record in coordinating successful projects with excellent organisational and project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver effective presentations
- Ability to build strong working relationships and negotiate with partners, public transport operators, and developers
- Experienced user and/or advocate of public, sustainable, or active transport
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Qualifications
