About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark infrastructure projects that shape the future. As Technical Director Land, you will provide regional leadership across Manchester and Leeds, supporting the delivery of land referencing, landowner engagement, consultation management, land access, formal consents, statutory orders, compensation agreements and land acquisition for strategic infrastructure projects across the North of England and wider UK and Ireland. You will lead business development efforts across multiple sectors including electricity, highways, rail, water, telecoms, gas and renewable energy, securing new projects and clients while strengthening regional collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Your role will involve managing project delivery at a senior level, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and to the highest standards. You will provide technical direction on land acquisition processes such as CPO, DCO, Transport and Works Act Orders, compulsory acquisition, wayleaves and access arrangements. You will also lead regional resource strategy, including staff retention, succession planning and recruitment, and act as a regional champion for key pillars such as sector strategy, client growth, people development, operational excellence or technical leadership. This role requires excellent team working, client engagement, and leadership skills, promoting WSP’s culture of health, safety, wellbeing, quality assurance and data protection. Experience
- Managing and directing delivery of Land services including land referencing, Orders production, acquisition of consents, consultation and landowner engagement on infrastructure development schemes
- Working with multidisciplinary teams across various sectors and project stages
- Reducing land risk and advising clients on land-related matters throughout project lifecycles
- Experience with Public Inquiries/Oral Hearings and managing objections
- Business development with existing and new clients
- Knowledge of the regional market across Manchester, Leeds, the North of England and relevant UK infrastructure sectors
- Bid writing and approvals process
- Regional resource strategy, team development, succession planning and recruitment
- Strong landowner and public engagement skills
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiating skills
- Ability to develop strong relationships with senior clients, regional stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver high-quality outputs
- Good business and IT skills
- Adherence to quality assurance, data protection, Health and Safety standards

Qualifications
A degree in Geography, Agriculture, Land and Estate Management or a related discipline is desirable. Chartership or membership of a relevant professional body would be advantageous. The ability to travel effectively to various sites and locations is essential.
