About the Role
The Trainee Data Officer will join a growing team responsible for managing and optimising the organisation’s data, supporting daily operations, ensuring compliance, and improving performance through innovation. The role primarily involves maintaining and improving current databases and CRM systems, removing data silos, and integrating data across the company. As a small company, this role offers broad experience, including developing the CRM user interface and experience, designing new data models and architecture, and supporting data governance and quality initiatives.
The role includes ongoing mentor guidance and on-the-job learning, with support from established Officers, Senior Officers, and the Team Manager. Trainees are expected to progress to Officer grade typically within one year, with a salary increase at that time. The Officer grade pay band starts at £31,850.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Senior Data Officers and the Data Team Manager to develop and deliver key operational databases.
- Support the organisation’s use of data to improve internal performance.
- Digitise, standardise, and quality assure data to maintain high standards.
- Assist in developing and implementing improvements in data management.
- Help write data management policies and supporting documentation.
- Collate, process, and present data appropriately for different audiences.
- Respond efficiently to data requests from internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Develop close working relationships across teams to maintain high standards of information management.
- Manage own workload independently within a national dispersed team.
- Maintain high levels of personal flexibility, responsibility, and self-management.

NatureSpace Partnership administers the NatureSpace District Licensing Scheme, which supports the conservation of great crested newts across England. The scheme simplifies licensing for developers while delivering long-term habitat creation and management through partnerships with national NGOs and local planning authorities. Experience
- A relevant degree or at least 1 year of relevant work experience in analytics, data management, or data science.
- Familiarity with coding languages such as R, Python, SQL, or similar.
- Experience with databases or a basic understanding of relational database principles.
- Demonstrable experience managing data or datasets.
- Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent IT skills, especially in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Experience working independently and managing multiple tasks effectively.

Qualifications
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience is required.
- Knowledge or familiarity with Zoho One, particularly Zoho CRM, is advantageous but not essential.
- Basic knowledge of good data management practices is desirable.
- Experience working in deadline-driven environments and home working in cloud-based settings is beneficial.
