About the Role
We are seeking general waste porters to provide an effective waste portering service across the entire hospital. This role ensures compliance with legislative guidance, Trust policies, procedures, and practices. Working as part of a team, you will deliver a comprehensive service in all weather conditions, handling all waste streams in accordance with scheduled collections. Flexibility in working practices is required to meet changing operational needs. The Trust values Safe, Kind and Effective care, and expects all employees to embody these principles.

The main duties include undertaking all waste portering tasks, providing refuse collection services for clinical waste, domestic waste, glass, paper, cardboard, and package recycling waste from collection points trust-wide. You will collect Yellow/Orange clinical waste, domestic waste, and recyclable waste from dedicated waste holds/collection points, transport to compactors in the waste compound, and compact waste following Trust policies. Additional responsibilities include collecting cardboard, glass, bottles, paper/confidential waste, and computer waste, ensuring confidentiality and security at all times.

The Trust operates from three locations: The Countess of Chester Hospital with 473 general and acute beds; Ellesmere Port Hospital with 60 beds for rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient services; and Tarporley War Memorial Hospital serving local rural community services. Employing nearly 6,000 staff, the Trust provides care to over 400,000 people in Chester, West Cheshire, Ellesmere Port, Neston, and parts of Flintshire. It collaborates within the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System and works closely with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board due to its border location. In 2024/2025, the Trust recorded approximately 643,000 patient attendances ranging from outpatient appointments to major surgeries.
