About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of international projects within the UK and Ireland Mine Water team. Your work will span mine water management, flood risk, drainage design, dam and reservoir engineering, and environmental water studies. This role offers excellent career development and technical growth, with a clear pathway to engineering chartership supported by WSP’s Institution of Civil Engineers training agreement and mentorship from chartered engineers.

You will focus on mining projects but may also contribute to infrastructure, manufacturing, and land development sectors. Key responsibilities include hydrological and hydrotechnical design of diversion channels, spillways, culverts, and river engineering works across full project lifecycles; developing technical drawings, bills of quantities, and specifications; conducting flood risk assessments; water balance modelling using GoldSim and other tools; contributing to dam break analyses and consequence classification; supporting environmental assessments, permitting, ESG considerations, and water stewardship; providing construction supervision and site engineering support both domestically and internationally; performing designer hazard risk assessments prioritizing health and safety; and supporting client relationships and business development efforts.

Travel may be required for domestic or international site work depending on personal circumstances. A strong safety-first attitude is essential, promoting health and safety and adhering to WSP’s policies and procedures.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in a consulting and/or engineering environment. Demonstrable experience conducting hydrologic and hydraulic assessments and/or design of water management infrastructure is desirable.

About you
Strong technical and report writing skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to work collaboratively within a team. Good organisational and time management skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook). A safety-first mindset with commitment to health and safety practices.

Qualifications
BSc degree (or equivalent) in Water Resource Engineering or Civil Engineering with hydrology and hydraulics modules. MSc in hydrology and/or hydraulic design is advantageous. Competency with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM) and GIS and CAD platforms is desirable. Experience with GoldSim Monte Carlo Simulation software and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, C) is advantageous. Membership of a relevant professional organisation is preferred.
