About the Role
The White Rose Forest (WRF) is a vital initiative focused on protecting the natural environment, improving community health and wellbeing, and mitigating the impacts of the climate emergency through tree planting and woodland creation. As part of the larger Northern Forest stretching from Liverpool to the Yorkshire coast, the WRF has ambitious targets to plant millions of trees across Yorkshire in the coming years, supported by local and national government funding and partnerships.

We are recruiting a Landscapes for Water Project Officer to support the delivery of the Landscapes for Water programme. This programme aims to increase tree cover to provide a strategic approach to natural flood management across North and West Yorkshire, improve biodiversity, and enhance woodland accessibility for communities.

You will join a friendly, dynamic team of Project Officers delivering high-quality, sustainable woodland creation projects. Your role will involve working with landowners, partners, the forestry sector, local communities, and volunteers. Responsibilities include identifying woodland opportunities through mapping analysis, engaging with landowners, preparing detailed planting plans, supporting regulatory approvals, and ensuring projects develop into well-managed woodlands.

Additionally, you will help improve team systems and processes, support promotional activities and events, undertake site visits and inspections, and provide flexible support to colleagues as priorities shift. The role requires a full and valid driving licence due to travel between sites.

The position is employed through the Community Forest Trust on behalf of the WRF, with the team working remotely and flexibly but meeting regularly across North and West Yorkshire.

Key Focus Areas:
- Develop woodland creation plans and tree planting projects aligned with the Landscapes for Water programme
- Monitor and support woodland creation projects to ensure successful establishment
- Engage with landowners, partners, and the forestry sector to promote and develop tree planting initiatives
- Provide expertise to improve team working and project quality
- Support wider team activities including events and reporting commitments
- Promote the White Rose Forest through presentations, displays, and events

Experience
Demonstrable experience in a similar role or transferable skills related to woodland creation, natural flood management, community engagement, or forestry projects is desirable. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), ecology, forest operations, landscape design, or community engagement is advantageous but not essential.

About you
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Positive, proactive, and solution-oriented with a 'can-do' attitude
- Logical and lateral thinker with creative problem-solving skills
- Able to take initiative and responsibility for your work
- Committed to continuous professional development and career progression
- Flexible and adaptable to changing workloads and priorities
- Passionate about trees, woodlands, and their environmental and community benefits

Qualifications
A full and valid driving licence is required due to travel between sites. Specific qualifications are not stipulated, but relevant forestry, environmental, or project management qualifications would be beneficial.
