About the Role
Are you passionate about community growing and confident in managing the day-to-day challenges associated with allotments? Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Services are seeking a highly motivated and experienced officer to support our allotment service and tenants, and help manage our provision.

In this varied role, you will handle enquiries, tenancy issues, disputes, site visits, inspections, and plot-related concerns. You will manage cases from first contact through to resolution using clear communication, fair decision making, and accurate record keeping to ensure appropriate outcomes.

You will act as the key link between the council and allotment tenants, offering guidance, liaising with community groups, and helping maintain safe, welcoming, and well-run allotment sites.

Neighbourhood Services manages 63 allotment sites with approximately 2,000 plots across the 329 km² borough, so the ability to effectively navigate the area is essential.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in allotments management or community growing is highly desirable. Experience in handling tenancy issues, dispute resolution, and site inspections is essential.

You are motivated, confident, and able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people. You enjoy working outdoors and have strong problem-solving skills. You are able to navigate the borough efficiently and build positive relationships with tenants and community groups.

There are no specific qualification requirements stated for this role, but relevant experience and a passion for community engagement and allotments management are key.
