About the Role
Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is seeking an Apprentice/Substation/Journey Substation Technician responsible for performing effective substation maintenance, testing, and operation activities to ensure reliable electrical service. This position reports to the Substation Supervisor and requires the ability to respond promptly to after-hours trouble calls and emergencies, with a condition of being able to arrive at the NPPD office within 30 minutes of notification.

Key responsibilities include installation, checkout, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of electrical substation equipment. Technicians will perform acceptance and diagnostic testing of substation components, install and maintain protection and control equipment, and operate mobile substation equipment safely.

The position offers a structured progression program with defined levels: Apprentice, Substation Technician, Journey Substation Technician, and Senior Substation Technician. Advancement is based on proficiency evaluations, experience, and training completion. Journey level technicians lead others, provide training, oversee projects, and ensure safety compliance.

Technicians must maintain required certifications including CDL, switchman certification, CPR, and first aid. Compliance with NERC background checks is mandatory due to regulatory requirements.

NPPD values customer focus, teamwork, integrity, public service, environmental stewardship, and safety in all employees.
