About the Role
Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is seeking a Substation Technician Intern for Summer 2027 to join the team at the Norfolk Operations Center. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to learn and be mentored by experienced substation technicians in the field. The intern will assist with substation maintenance, testing, and operation activities essential to ensuring reliable electrical service. Responsibilities include installation, checkout, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of electrical equipment up to 345 kV. The role requires frequent travel with occasional overnight stays and responding to emergencies. Safety is paramount, and the intern must wear ASTM F2413-05 compliant safety shoes. The position reports to the Substation Supervisor and requires adherence to all safety policies and procedures. A background check, physical, and drug screen are required prior to employment. The intern must live within 30 minutes of the reporting office in accordance with off-duty response time guidelines. Experience
Must have successfully completed freshman year of college in Electro-Mechanical Technology or Electrical Construction and Control at an accredited institution. Internship must be part of the program curriculum.

About you
Motivated to learn and work safely in a field environment. Able to travel frequently with occasional overnight stays. Must live within 30 minutes of the Norfolk Operations Center. Must be able to respond to emergencies as needed.

Qualifications
Enrollment in Electro-Mechanical Technology or Electrical Construction and Control program at Northeast Community College or similar accredited institution. Must complete background check, physical, and drug screen prior to starting. Safety shoes meeting ASTM F2413-05 specifications required. No licenses or certifications required.
