About the Role
Do you want to work on one of the most exciting transformation projects in the public sector? The Defence Housing Service (DHS) is being created to deliver a step-change in housing for the UK’s Armed Forces and their families, backed by a £9.2 billion investment. DHS will modernise tens of thousands of homes, introduce a more proactive and customer-focused approach to maintenance, and unlock new opportunities to develop housing on Defence land. This is a rare opportunity to shape its culture, influence how it works, and help deliver lasting improvements for Service families across the UK.
As Assistant Head, Strategy Development, you will work closely with the Deputy Head of Strategy and cross-cutting stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into clear, deliverable outputs. You will lead on strategic areas including the Corporate Strategy, Annual Report, and bespoke cross-cutting projects that ensure Service Personnel and their families are at the heart of defence development activities.
You will bring together evidence, insight and diverse perspectives to tackle complex strategy challenges, enhance business capabilities, and drive performance. You will lead and line-manage a small Strategy team, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure alignment with strategy development and delivery.
Responsibilities include supporting delivery of key DIO strategies, leading monitoring and reporting against Defence Housing Strategy recommendations, managing high-profile projects, providing clear strategic outputs that influence operational and policy change, and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is proud to be the expert partner Defence needs for all infrastructure requirements, delivering unique projects from runways for F35 fighter jets to net carbon-zero accommodation for Service families. The future delivery model for this team is under review and may change as part of organisational developments.
