As Business Unit Commissioning Lead for Data Centres, you will be accountable for the delivery of MEP services on projects to agreed outcomes for time, budget, safety and quality. You will lead the delivery of high-quality, time-efficient and profitable projects while providing leadership and accountability for compliance, governance, assurance and management of technical and construction teams.
Your responsibilities will include leading the MEP team, managing programme, health, safety & wellbeing, quality and commissioning, and building strong relationships with clients, consultants, trade contractors and other stakeholders. You will lead MEP involvement in tendering, procurement strategies, contract reviews, budget preparation, value engineering and commercial support throughout the project lifecycle.
You will define and execute strategic project plans aligned with Mace’s operating framework and priorities such as Prefabrication (C2P), Commissioning and Safety. You will oversee design reviews for compliance, coordination and completeness, including embodied carbon and operational energy considerations. You will implement commissioning strategies in line with Mace standards, manage productivity assessments using digital technologies, support project close out activities and ensure continuous improvement through lessons learned.
Managing large teams of senior direct reports, you will demonstrate effective leadership to ensure excellence in delivery, champion continuous improvement, deliver performance management, technical development and coaching. You will work collaboratively towards net zero carbon transition and proactively manage associated carbon emissions and reductions during project delivery.
Experience
- Advanced knowledge of engineering systems including design standards, installation techniques, prefabrication and commissioning requirements.
- Advanced understanding of construction build elements, sequencing and dependencies.
- Advanced knowledge of planning processes, critical path, scheduling and commissioning activities.
- Advanced commercial management skills including procurement, change control, risk mitigation and forecasting.
- Advanced knowledge of health, safety & welfare core elements relevant to construction projects.
- Advanced knowledge of Quality Assurance processes and commissioning of integrated systems.
- Proven ability to manage large project teams and multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience delivering projects with MEP values exceeding £50M.
- Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery.
- Proficiency in building services or specified engineering discipline.
- Effective stakeholder management and strong presentation skills.
- Strong communication, analytical, innovative and adaptable skills.

Qualifications
- Trade/Technical apprenticeship or Graduate development programme.
- Formal Engineering training (HNC, HND, BTEC or equivalent).
- SMSTS and CSCS card.
- Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent; master’s degree in engineering is advantageous.
- Professional accreditation with CIBSE, IET, IMechE, SoPHE or similar is desirable.
