The Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a Carpentry Apprentice to work on a major construction development in Southwark.
This apprenticeship is ideal for someone who has already developed some practical carpentry knowledge, such as completing a Level 2 Carpentry qualification or gaining hands-on experience, and is looking to build a long-term career in the construction industry.
Working alongside experienced tradespeople, you will develop your skills on live construction projects while completing an industry-recognised apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities
Assist experienced carpenters with day-to-day construction activities
Measure, mark out, cut, and fit timber and sheet materials under supervision
Support first fix carpentry, including stud walls, timber framing, noggins, and structural timber
Support second fix carpentry, including skirting boards, architraves, doors, boxing-in, and ironmongery
Safely move materials and assist with loading and unloading deliveries
Use hand and power tools safely and correctly under supervision
Follow technical drawings, site instructions, and work specifications
Attend daily briefings, toolbox talks, and site inductions
Maintain clean, safe, and organised working areas
Follow all Health & Safety procedures, PPE requirements, and site rules
Work collaboratively with other trades where required
Essential
Must be a resident of the London Borough of Southwark
Valid CSCS Card
Some previous carpentry experience or training
A genuine interest in developing a career in carpentry
Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
Positive attitude with a strong work ethic
Physically fit and able to work on a construction site
Good understanding of Health & Safety
Desirable
Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery qualification (or currently studying towards one)
Previous experience on a construction site
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, or willingness to complete Functional Skills if required
Successful applicants will receive:
Enrolment onto a Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeship
Day-release attendance at college
A dedicated workplace mentor
Regular progress reviews
Training in first and second fix carpentry techniques
Site-based training including Manual Handling, Working at Height Awareness, Fire Safety, Abrasive Wheels, and Silica Dust Awareness
A clear progression pathway to become a qualified Carpenter, with opportunities to progress into improver and skilled roles based on performance and attendance
