About the Role
Kingston Council declared a Climate Emergency in June 2019 and is committed to becoming net zero in its own operations by 2030 and enabling the borough to reach net zero emissions by 2038. The Climate Action Officer will be part of the Climate Action Team within the Residents and Communities Directorate, reporting to the Climate Action Programme Manager. This role involves working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to develop and deliver initiatives that reduce carbon emissions across homes, buildings, and transport in Kingston. The role supports a sustainable future that enhances the health and wellbeing of local communities.
The successful candidate will develop, coordinate, and monitor strategies and actions to meet the borough’s 2038 net zero ambition. Key responsibilities include driving new projects such as a data-led retrofit programme for social housing, building strong partnerships across council departments and external stakeholders, and identifying funding opportunities through bids and business cases. The role requires flexibility for in-borough working 2-3 days a week and occasional weekend or evening work.

Experience
- Operational experience and technical knowledge related to climate change, energy efficiency, retrofit measures, and/or the energy sector.
- Proven project management skills with a strong track record of delivery and reporting.
- Excellent communication, engagement, and stakeholder management abilities.

Qualifications
Education to degree level or equivalent in a relevant environmental subject.
