About the Role
At Arun District Council, we are committed to improving wellbeing, housing, the environment, and the economy within the district. As a Climate Change and Sustainability Officer, you will assist in delivering the Council’s Climate Action and Biodiversity Work Plan and the Carbon Neutral Strategy. Your role will include supporting and influencing the procurement of goods and services to ensure alignment with the Council’s carbon reduction objectives. You will support and deliver carbon reduction initiatives within Council services and with external stakeholders, focusing on suppliers, local SMEs/business owners, residents, schools, staff, elected members, and others. Increasing engagement around climate change and sustainability with both internal and external stakeholders will be a key part of your responsibilities. Regular office attendance is required, with a minimum of two days per week. We value professional development and work-life balance, offering flexible working arrangements to support our employees.

Experience
Experience in sustainability, climate change initiatives, or related fields is desirable to effectively support carbon reduction and engagement activities.

About you
You are motivated to make a positive environmental impact and able to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including suppliers, local businesses, residents, and council staff. You have strong communication skills and a proactive approach to delivering sustainability projects. Flexibility to occasionally work evenings and attend the office regularly is essential.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or related disciplines are preferred but not mandatory. A commitment to continuous professional development and learning is important for success in this role.
