About the Role
Guildford Borough Council is expanding its Countryside Team and offers an exciting opportunity to use your passion for the outdoors to enhance the quality of the local countryside and contribute to the development of three newly opened sites. The Countryside Team manages over 800 hectares of diverse habitats including Chalk Downland, Heathlands, Woodlands, Local Nature Reserves, SSSIs, and urban green spaces. As a Countryside Warden, you will carry out a variety of countryside work operations, manage contractors, and engage with the community. Most of your time will be spent on site, where no two days are the same. Your role will involve estate management tasks such as scrub clearance, tree felling, coppicing, fencing, and other conservation activities. You will also promote public, educational, and community use of the sites by supervising volunteer groups and running events and activities as directed. This frontline role requires working on your own initiative and communicating effectively and enthusiastically with volunteers, partner organisations, and contractors. Physical fitness and a driving licence are essential for this role.
Experience
Proven experience working in countryside or habitat management, including estate management, scrub clearance, tree felling, coppicing, fencing, and conservation tasks.

Self-motivated and able to work independently. Strong communication skills to engage with volunteer groups, partner organisations, and contractors. Enthusiastic about outdoor work and community involvement. Physically fit and able to perform demanding tasks.
Qualifications
National Certificate in Countryside Management or equivalent experience. A valid driving licence is essential.
