About the Role
The Director will have overall responsibility for the Bank’s activities in the energy sector across Central Europe, the Baltic States, South-eastern Europe including the Balkans, Ukraine, Czechia, and Greece. This includes oversight of all financing products and policy dialogue with relevant stakeholders. Leading a team, the Director will manage the origination, structuring, execution, implementation, and monitoring of all sector transactions, while delivering an ambitious policy agenda in coordination with the Banking regional team, VP3, and other colleagues. Reporting to the Managing Director of the Sustainable Infrastructure Group, the role demands a strong commitment to the Bank’s mandate and institutional goals, fostering an environment of operational delivery and technical excellence, and providing strategic thought leadership. Key responsibilities include managing the team’s delivery against annual objectives, supervising budgets and resources, proposing strategic direction, advising on sector matters, overseeing project quality and compliance, conducting policy dialogue, managing client and stakeholder relationships, representing the Bank at conferences, and actively managing the existing portfolio to protect and enhance value. The Director will also participate in senior leadership activities within the Sustainable Infrastructure Group, ensuring team compliance with integrity procedures and championing the Bank’s behavioural competencies and corporate behaviours.

Requirements

Experience
- Significant financial industry experience at a major merchant/investment, commercial or development bank, private equity firm, asset management firm, or auditing/financial consulting firm operating to international standards.
- Extensive experience leading complex transactions through the full project life cycle.
- Proven capacity to conceptualise, articulate, and oversee substantive policy reforms.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in challenging environments.
- Experience and judgement on integrity matters.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a business and lead a team.
- Extensive experience in the energy sector with a track record of origination and execution is desirable.
- Knowledge of the business and regulatory environment in Europe is desirable.
