About the Role
Join us at Forestry England, where we are a passionate team of foresters, professionals, and experts dedicated to making a positive difference for the environment. We are actively growing the nation’s forests, planting around 1,000 hectares of new woodland each year to support carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and create resilient landscapes for future generations. As an Ecologist in our Woodland Creation team, you will play a key role in shaping the future of landscape-scale woodland expansion. Your responsibilities will include supporting the evaluation, planning, and delivery of woodland creation projects across England, ensuring designs meet regulatory requirements and best practices. You will work closely with colleagues and external stakeholders throughout the development and delivery of projects, providing technical expertise on a diverse range of ecological constraints and opportunities. While this is primarily a desk-based role, some travel across England will be required to visit sites and attend meetings, with occasional overnight stays. This is a Temporary Appointment for three years with the possibility of extension or permanency, but no guarantee.
Experience
Experience in ecological assessments and woodland creation projects is desirable.
About you
You are enthusiastic about forestry and ecology, with a passion for environmental conservation. You possess strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality work are essential.
Qualifications
A relevant degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred. Professional memberships and certifications in ecology or forestry would be advantageous.
