About the Role
Forestry England is passionate about growing and managing the nation’s forests for everyone. We are seeking a Species Recovery Manager (Maternity Cover) to lead one of the most ambitious nature recovery initiatives in England. You will lead the recovery of priority species such as beaver, wildcat, pine marten, white-tailed eagle and wood ants, primarily through conservation translocation projects. With over 30 projects underway across England, including feasibility studies and reintroductions, you will provide technical leadership, manage a delegated budget of around £2 million, and develop new species recovery projects to drive nature recovery forward.
This role involves strong programme and project management, stakeholder engagement with organisations like Wildlife Trusts and Natural England, and representation of Forestry England on national forums. You will work across diverse landscapes including the Lake District, Kielder Forest, North York Moors, Peak District, New Forest, Purbeck, Forest of Dean and Dartmoor. Regular travel across England is required, including to remote locations, and occasional overnight stays.
Forestry England supports hybrid working and offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment where your leadership will make a tangible difference to nature recovery and forestry management in England.
