About the Role

If you’re at your best out on site, talking to engineers, challenging decisions, spotting risks before they become problems and rolling up your sleeves to put things right, this could be the role for you. Through business growth, we’re looking for a hands-on and experienced field-based Environmental Advisor to help us deliver environmental excellence across our civil engineering projects. This is not a desk-based sustainability strategy role. It’s about being present, visible and influential where it really matters - out on site. You’ll be supporting projects through design, construction and reinstatement, ensuring we stay compliant, minimise impact and continuously improve how we work.

Here are some of the things you'll be involved with:
- Undertaking environmental assessments and producing practical, workable environmental management plans out on site.
- Working directly with operational teams to ensure works meet legal and regulatory requirements.
- Carrying out inspections and audits in line with ISO 14001, permits and environmental legislation — identifying issues early and driving corrective action.
- Supporting incident management and ensuring lessons are learned, shared and embedded.
- Monitoring environmental performance and translating data into meaningful actions.
- Engaging confidently with colleagues, clients and regulators — providing clear, pragmatic advice.
- Championing best practice and encouraging smarter, more environmentally responsible ways of working.

Experience
Previous experience in an environmental role within the civil engineering, construction or utilities sectors, with a good understanding of environmental legislation and its application to operational projects. Confident managing environmental risks, preparing environmental plans and reports, and using environmental data to identify opportunities for practical improvements. Comfortable working closely with operational teams, providing advice and guidance while confidently challenging where necessary to maintain environmental standards.

About you
Someone with relevant field-based experience in an environmental role who enjoys being out on site and working closely with operational teams. You like solving real-world problems in real time and prefer practical delivery over corporate sustainability strategy. You have a genuine passion for protecting and enhancing the environment through practical, on-site delivery rather than theory alone. A full UK driving licence is essential as this is a predominantly field-based role.

Qualifications
A relevant environmental qualification or membership such as IEMA, CIWEM, IES or CIWM is desirable, along with a degree in an environmental discipline.
